Music and Fashion Need Each Other

For many pop stars, changes in sound are often by accompanied by changes in wardrobe. Madonna is not the only singer to experience sartorial reinvention with each new single: Almost all of the women dominating today's charts have very well-defined senses of style, perhaps, as StyleBistro's guest editor Ciara notes, because fashion and music are inextricably linked.

Ciara told us, "I feel like fashion and music go hand in hand. I feel like both things really need each other. Sometimes I can be making a record and I'll be thinking, 'Oh, this is what I want to wear.' It kind of really shapes the direction of what I want to wear, it really takes it to another place."

Ciara, who counts Jennifer Lopez as her style inspiration, says the most important factor shaping her sound and style is herself: "The thing for me is just all about staying true to who I am. When you look at some of my other female counterparts like Rihanna and Beyonce or any other females, I think the thing that's really cool is that we really seem to have [style] that really seems to reflect our personalities and we're all different in a sense."
